January 18-22, 2016 Mrs. Carroll

Welcome back!  I know that we all enjoyed this long weekend and we are getting back on track!  Because of the short week, there will not be a trial spelling test on Wednesday but remember to practice your spelling words every night.

The spelling words all have the sound of long A, but spelled in unusual ways:  obey, they, change, strange, neighbor, way, weight, wait, eight, eighty, eighteen, weigh.  Grammar lessons will focus on adjectives, adverbs, verbs (past, present, and future tenses) and contractions using "will."  In  handwriting, we will work on cursive g and q.

We will finish chapter 3 of Little House in the Big Woods and work on the lapbook for those chapters.  How about that panther story?

In Bible, we are learning about Solomon, son of King David, who became the king after David's death.

Our big event this week is Donuts for Dad!  We hope to visit with your dads (grandfathers welcome also!) and spend some special time Friday morning.

Some reminders:
*It is time to plan for early registration for school year 2016-2017!

*The school dress code is outlined in the handbook. Please make sure that you are following the dress code, especially for chapel.  Infractions result in a noncompliance note to your parents.

*The behavior expectations are also outlined in the handbook.  In our class, a student will receive a verbal warning if he/she chooses not to follow the expectations.  After the verbal warning, a check mark will be placed by his/her name.  If necessary, a second check mark will result in the student losing recess or enrichment.  A third check mark will result in a note/email home to the parents.  A fourth check mark will result in the student visiting with Dr. Carpenter to discuss behavior choices.

Our classroom rules follow the Whole Brain approach:
Follow directions quickly!
Raise your hand for permission to speak!
Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat!
Make smart choices!
Make your dear teacher happy!

*The Gala is coming soon (February 5) and our class is preparing two projects for the auction:  a Game Night Basket and a Cookbook.  Thank you for providing items for the Game Night Basket - if you have not brought your contribution, please send it as soon as possible.  Also, please send (or email) your fabulous recipe to be included in the cookbook!

*Several report cards are still out - please get them signed and returned quickly!
