Second Grade Mrs. Carroll October 5 - 9, 2015

This week we will work on words that have the "er" sound, but they are spelled with or, ear, or ar.  Here are some jingles to help students remember them:

The worst word work is spelling worry and worm.
I've heard it is not too early to learn to save the earth.
Regular sugar costs a dollar.

The Spelling Words and Pattern Words for this week are the same because of their difficulty.

In Grammar, we will practice reading the past tense of verbs by recognizing the ed ending.  We will also learn about adding ing and ed to base words, and dropping silent e to add the ending.  We will work with comparing things by adding er and est, as well as changing the final y to i to add an ending.

This week in Bible, we will learn about the Ark of the Covenant and what happened to Eli when it was stolen from  Israel.

In History, we are now learning about the First Intermediate Period in Egypt (2200 - 2050 B.C.  Life in Egypt at this time became a long period of civil war, controlled by the rich and powerful rulers, but leaving the common people in a time of trouble.  We will make some amulets for "protection" as practiced by the Egyptians.
