This week in Language Arts, we will continue with SuperKids as they also get ready for second grade to come to an end! They are "testing" this week, so we can certainly relate to their experiences! You will get your spelling list on Monday for the week. We will focus on writing - this week we will write different forms of poetry.
In History, we will continue to learn about Alexander the Great and his military leadership. We will also look at some of Aristotle's sayings and write them in cursive!
In Literature, we will finish up activities for The Mouse and the Motorcycle and watch the movie. That will be fun to compare the book to the movie!
In Bible, we will learn how the Kingdom of Judah is conquered by Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon.
Please remember that permission forms and money for the field trip to Inner Space Caverns need to be returned by May 3. (it is printed on bright yellow paper!)
We are working hard to make contributions to the Jump Rope for American Heart Association. Everyone should have brought home the program information.

Great Job, Second Graders!! You worked so hard last week and I am very proud of you! Taking tests is stressful, but you listened carefully, thought through, and did your very best. On Friday, you had a fabulous time at Peaceable Kingdom - a perfect way to end this busy week. Thank you, Mrs. Bonnet and Mr. Howell for providing transportation!
This week, we are back to our regular routine. Spelling words will be sent home Monday, trial test on Wednesday, and final test on Friday. I apologize that I don't have the list with me at the moment (I'm at home and forgot to bring it with me) but these words have the long o sound, spelled with various patterns. Please look for the spelling homework!!
In Bible, we will continue to work on our personal prayer books - adding scripture that we have learned and illustrating them. Memory work is Psalm 23.
In History, we are going to learn about Alexander the Great and how he changed the history of Egypt.
We continue to enjoy reading The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary. We learned that she has her 100th birthday this week, and we watched an interview with her on NBC. What a treat to "meet" this author who has had such an impact on young (and older) readers for over 60 years! We also learned that her mother would not get eyeglasses for her because she didn't want to ruin her looks! Beverly was a librarian and didn't begin writing until she was older. Best wishes and happy birthday to Beverly Cleary - and enjoy your carrot cake!
In handwriting, we are practicing cursive lower case and upper case. We set a goal of starting to write spelling words in cursive!
Please remember that this is Book Fair Week and Grandparents' Week!

April 4 - 8, 2016 Mrs. Carroll
This week we will take a series of standardized tests (Iowa Assessments) beginning on Tuesday morning and continuing Wednesday, and Thursday. We did some practice tests last week and the students did well. We made a list of hints to remember this week:
1.Do your very best
2.Stay focused
3.Listen carefully
4.Mark one answer per line
5.Choose the best answer, but don't spend too much time on one question
6.The tests are timed...Mrs. Carroll can't repeat questions or help out:(
7.Eat a good breakfast!!
8.Come to school rested and ready!!
9.You are AWESOME!!
The School is going to Peaceable Kingdom on Friday. I will need some parent volunteers for transportation. I can take three students in my car, so if you are able to help out, I would appreciate it. Please remember to send in the $5.00 per student and signed permission slips/waivers by TUESDAY, April 5. This is a wonderful event that everyone will enjoy!
I have scheduled a field trip for second graders to Inner Space Caverns in Georgetown in May (waiting on confirmation of the date) and would love to have parents chaperone and drive. More details will be sent to you as soon as possible.
This week we will not have spelling homework or test - we will get back on schedule after testing is complete. We have started a fun book in class - The Motorcycle and the Mouse by Beverly Cleary.
