August 24-28, 2015

We have had a great start to school!  Next week we get into full swing with our learning agenda. In Bible class, we will get acquainted with the Judges of the Old Testament and learn that God's chosen people have a hard time keeping His commandments!  History takes us back some 5.000 years to  learn about the fascinating culture of Egypt - mummies, pyramids, the Nile River, and much more.  We will do map work to locate Egypt in the modern world and understand the geography of this country.  In Literature, we will finish My Father's Dragon  and complete some fun activities to share our favorite parts.  This week we begin our English/Language Arts program, Superkids Hit Second Grade!  We start our lessons with Daily Routines (sight word recognition, spelling, phonics, decoding and dictation).  We also begin our Guided Reading lessons about the Superkids - returning first graders will recognize Doc, Fritz, Golly, and the rest of the group and enjoy their adventures as they also begin second grade!  Students will have a spelling test on Friday over the "Memory Words" - students will bring home a "backpack" worksheet on Monday that will show the spelling words.  Be sure to ask your second-grader about bucket fillers and Whole Brain rules!
